Derek Tries To Find A Cure

Derek Tries To Find A Cure

Once upon a time, in the magical land of Sweetfire Vale, there resided a silly and whimsical dragon named Derek who had type 1 diabetes. Derek was known far and wide for his mischievous antics, which included unravelling rolls of paper towels!

One day, as Derek playfully wiggled and rolled around in unravelled paper towels in his dragon lair, he stumbled upon an idea. "What if I could use these paper towels to help me control my blood sugar instead of having to inject insulin?" he exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with hope. Excited by the prospect of finding a cure for diabetes, Derek set to work performing magical dragon rituals. In a midst of swirling smoke and sparkling embers, he unspooled a fresh roll of paper towels and began taking bites of it, convinced that the absorbent magic-infused material would somehow soak up the excess sugar in his bloodstream.

As he chomped down on the kitchen-roll, fire extinguisher to wing, Derek couldn't help but giggle at the absurdity of it all. Fluffy white shreds of paper towel flew around him clinging to his scales, and despite his best intentions and spells, his blood sugar remained stubbornly unaffected.

Unbeknownst to Derek, his silly endeavours did not go unnoticed. His wise and caring dragon friend, Lily, the lilac dragon with shimmering scales, happened to pass by his lair and witness the chaotic scene. Concerned for Derek's well-being, she rushed to his side. "Derek, my silly friend," Lily gently called out, trying to stifle her laughter. "What are you doing with all that shredded paper towel?"

Derek looked up, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Lily, I thought maybe if I ate kitchen-roll, it would help me control my blood sugar instead of taking insulin. But it doesn't seem to be working!" He sighed, realizing the folly of his actions.

Lily chuckled softly, understanding Derek's intentions, but knowing there had to be a better way to manage his diabetes. "Derek, you silly goose," Lily began, "I admire your creativity, but we need to find healthier and more effective ways to manage your blood sugar. Nothing can replace the insulin you need to manage your diabetes."

Derek's shoulders drooped, but he nodded in agreement. "You're right, Lily. I was being silly, but I thought I could find a magical solution!”

Lily smiled warmly. "The magic is in your strength and determination Derek! Together, we will find a balanced approach. We can work with the Doctor Sagescale to see what the best insulin therapy is for you, whether that’s a pump or a little device for your scales to inject in to.”

Derek's face lit up with hope. He realized that with the support of Lily and Dr Sagescale, he could lead a fulfilling life while managing his diabetes effectively as part of his daily routine. They booked an appointment with Dr Sagescale and spent the rest of the afternoon giggling about their adventures whilst cleaning up tiny pieces of paper towel, reminding each other that even in the face of challenges; perseverance, and a little bit of silliness, one could conquer anything.

(Please do not ever eat paper towels : they will not cure your diabetes!)
